Bhasha is not an acronym. The term ‘bhasha’ means in most Indian languages, ‘language’, ‘speech’, ‘definition’ or ‘voice’.
Bhasha Trust was founded in 1996 for study, documentation and conservation of marginal languages.
The main areas of interest for Bhasha have been language, arts, culture, education and social harmony.
Bhasha’s area of work is spread across all States and Union Territories of India.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has recognized Bhasha as a Centre of Excellence.
Bhasha is accredited to provide Advisory Services to UNESCO on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
